UU services this morning were predictable. :) Still no word on the property. Earlier this year, the company that owns the Adams Art Gallery decided to divest itself of several buildings, including the Art Gallery which was once a UU church. The place was offered to the Art Gallery who were told that if they turned it down, it would not be offered to them again. They turned it down. Next it was offered to the UU Society of Northern Chautauqua. We asked for written first right of refusal. In other words, they couldn't offer it to someone else before we paid $300 for a building inspection. At this point, the Adams Art Gallery steps in again, decides they want the building after all and there's now some kind of court order stopping the company from offering us the building. They're making US out to be the bad guys because WE'RE trying to get rid of an art gallery. We're doing no such thing. We were offered a building. Period. So now we have to wait until all this paperwork gets straightened out before we can even vote on whether or not the congregation as a majority *wants* the building.
On the positive side, it's known that my family owned apartment buildings and I learned how to be handy at home repairs. People are actually seeking me out to get my opinion on how to make the various small repairs the building needs. I like the feeling. |
